Superfood of the century – Hemp Flowers

Tweedle Farms is on the ‘Welcome List’ for excellent hemp products.

We all want to wave a magic wand and relieve every ailment and live long productives lives. This glorious review suggests that eating raw hemp flowers just might be the flag for that magic wand.

Tweedle Farms is a family operated hemp farm in Oregon with a friendly website and educational articles. Their products are clearly labeled, and each includes a full profile Certificate of Analysis. I purchased my product online and received my 1/8 oz. of Special Sauce hemp flower buds yesterday. The aroma was delightful with fruity goodness and piney pungency – great hints of the beneficial terpene levels.

I used my fingertips to gently separate the softer buds from the stems and put some in extra virgin olive oil to be used later as a salad dressing base and sprinkled some right on top of my salad. But first, I licked my fingertips and found the flavors so inviting that I ate a tiny piece of the flower bud and its scent stayed with me until bedtime.

Truly, this package arrived in a timely manner as I had had a stressful day and my damaged neck muscles were swelling and my pounding head threatened with a migraine. Twenty years ago I was in a head-on collision and have suffered every day. I was edgy and ready to take a pain pill. But after licking my fingers it was only minutes before I felt my edginess lessen its grip and my tense neck muscles followed. I did not get a migraine and smiled like a woman with no worries. It was not a euphoric feeling at all. There is not enough THC in hemp to get ‘high.’ I simply felt at ease like everything was A-Okay – copacetic. I slept well and this morning I can tell you with certainty that this product is on my ‘Welcome List.’

The verifiable full profile COA clarified that the product was free of pesticides. Check out their full profile COA, including the terpene levels on their website.

This batch of Specail Sauce Hemp Flowers contains THCA .573, CBDA .701, CBGA .281, CBG .283, CBCA .701, and terpenes galore! Excellent.

Introduction to Science of Terpenes

These analytes are critically important because they are not inhibited by any transference system in the body. According to Christelle Andre, et. al., author of “Cannabis sativa: The Plant of the Thousand and One Molecules,” Terpenes are lipophilic compounds that easily cross membranes and the blood-brain barrier in particular (Fukumoto et al., 2006). They present a wide-array of pharmacological properties, which have recently been described in several reviews (Russo, 2011Singh and Sharma, 2015). The biological activities of D-limonene, also commonly found in Citrus essential oils, have been well described in the literature. It notably exhibits potent anti-cancer, anxiolytic and immunostimulating properties in humans (Komori et al., 1995). β-myrcene, a terpene commonly found in hop, is recognized as a potent anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and anxiolytic component (Cleemput et al., 2009). α-Pinene is an acetylcholinesteral inhibitor, and may thereby aid memory abilities (Kennedy et al., 2011), which could counteract the memory deficits induced by THC. Linalool, commonly found in Lavandula angustifolia, possesses similar properties to the ones described for its monoterpene counterparts, i.e., analgesic, anti-anxiety, anti-inflammatory, and anticonvulsant (Russo, 2011). β-caryophyllene, a well-known active principle of black pepper and Copaiba balsam, possesses potent anti-inflammatory and gastric cytoprotector activities (Singh and Sharma, 2015). Interestingly, it selectively binds to the CB2 receptor and could therefore technically be considered as a phytocannabinoid (Gertsch et al., 2008). Pentacyclic triterpenes such as β-amyrin and cycloartenol have been shown to possess numerous biological activities including anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties (Vázquez et al., 2012Moses et al., 2013). These triterpenes are key contributors to the pharmacological properties of numerous medicinal herbs (Kirby et al., 2008Yadav et al., 2010Sawai and Saito, 2011)Terpenes are the natural vors, and in cannabis, each strain develops a distinct profile of terpenes. These fragrant molecules are secreted in the same oils as cannabinoids, but they are non-psychoactive, and many offer therapeutic benefits of their own.

Some Simplified Terpenes

1.Myrcene:  most common, earthy, herbal, and musky aroma, antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-carcinogenic

2. Pinene: fresh pine needle aroma, helps with alertness, aids memory. Alpha-Pinene (raw) acts as a bronchodilator, anti-fungal, anti-tumor, and immunostimulating effects

3. Limonene: strong citrus aroma and bitter flavor, stress-relieving, mood elevating properties.

4. Caryophyllene: woodlands, spicy pepper, and clove aroma, anti-proliferative, stress reducing, effective at aiding withdrawal from alcohol and drugs, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, fights free radicals, increases bone mineralization

5. Humulene: hops aroma, anti-tumor, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory properties, appetite suppressant

6. Linalool: lavender aroma, sedative, anti-depressant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-epileptic

7. Eucalyptol aka Cineole: eucalyptus tree aroma, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant

8. Borneol: minty aroma, natural insect repellant, analgesic, anti-fibrosis, and antibacterial

9. Phytol: little odor, chlorophyll derived causes yellow color, anti-insomnia, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant

10. Geraniol: sweet, floral aroma, antioxidant, anti-proliferative

CBDa and THCa (in raw hemp) contains more anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, and anti-ischemic properties than their counterparts, THC and CBD.

Raw cannabis is an antioxidant superfood. Antioxidants are the Marines of the war on aging. Antioxidants prevent cell damage and protect the body from stress that causes accelerated aging. In fact, the antioxidant and neuroprotective powers of CBD are so valuable that the US Federal Government patented it in 2003. US6,630,507 – Cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants

The research in US Patent 6,630,507 reveals that CBD is a more powerful antioxidant than both vitamin C and vitamin E.

Consuming raw cannabis means your body receives the maximum amount of benefits by delivering them in the raw form rather than a form that has been heated.

Cannabis leaves are loaded with folate, iron, calcium, vitamin C, and vitamin K- nutrients which are essential for repairing DNA, moving oxygen through the blood, creating strong bones through mineralization, boosting the immune system, and even promoting blood clotting and calcium absorption.  Consuming raw cannabis can even protect against cancer. It should be noted though that in order to get the most nutritious goodness from raw cannabis, you should consume it with a fat to increase the bioavailability. And avoid citrus like grapefruit as it will ‘cook’ the beneficial raw analytes. The body has all the natural compounds needed to recieve hemp’s benefits.

Below is the Cannabinoid Benefit Chart relating to this batch of Special Sauce. I highly recommend Tweedle Farm and its products.

It is not wise to use a product without full transparency. Insist on a verifiable full profile COA with any hemp product. Identify the testing lab with a header on the lab work. Do not accept a lab report without identifying language and contact information. Identify that COA with a correlating batch number.
